¡º I want to fall in love with fall! ¡»

The golden yellow ginko tree

As the hot summer sunshine gets milder, the fresh cool autumn breeze gently drifts over my face. Although the brightly shining sunlight, the deep blue sky, and the golden yellow ginkgo tree were as beautiful as a watercolor, I felt some kind of emptiness in my heart. Well...autumn is known as the season of loneliness, so if I don't do something special, I might feel much lonelier right? So I decided to follow the reporter Heo, Soo-jeong, covering this month's Gourmet in Daegu section. After finishing my dreadful fourth exam in Genetic Engineering (there are a total of 8 exams in one semester for this subject only. My god!), I quickened my pace, trying to get rid of the test result which was spinning around inside my head, shouting YOU FAILED! YOU FAILED! (To tell the truth, it is like a squirrel wheel repeated again and again to me when ever I take exams.) On the way, I was welcomed by trees which were changing into yellow and red, shedding their summer green clothes.

I started walking from the General Education Building, and when I reached the North Gate, I was surprised at the number of students waiting for the traffic lights, to cross the road. Not desiring to miss this kind of energetic youthful scene, I quickly pushed the button my camera. But, Oops! Hundreds - it seemed that much to me - of eyes turned upon me, some of them trying to find the source of the camera flash that had disturbed their pleasant chat. Although feeling really embarrassed, I kept calm. When the light turned red and the traffic stopped, I bravely marched toward the other side of the road. When I was just half-way across, I saw Soo-jeong and a girl in a green sweater eagerly searching for someone with their hands on their foreheads. I called out "Soo-jeong!" and greeted her and her friend. Soo-jeong said that Bo-young, who is also a reporter at The KNU Times, cancelled her arrangement to meet us because she had some other things to do. (While I was writing this sentence, I found an interesting thing. When I unintentionally magnified the picture taken in front of the North Gate, I could see a small Soo-jeong and her friend looking for me! What a picture puzzle!)

After walking down the road for a some time, we found the restaurant Secret Garden which was the destination of today's trip. Soo-jeong went into a convenience store, located below that restaurant, to buy batteries for her camera. While waiting, I pushed the camera shutter many times to take pictures of the signboard of the Secret Garden, but none of them were satisfactory. When Soo-jeong, her friend and I entered the restaurant, we could see many women customers inside, which wasn't surprising considering the pretty interior decoration and the mild atmosphere surrounding it. Also, I could smell the delicious flavor of something being cooked in the kitchen which made me feel hungry. Luckily, we were able to find a vacant table, but people who were later than us had to wait.

Soo-jeong's friend, Ji-hyun, who is also majoring in Mass Communication, was a shy girl. She was very different from Soo-jeong and I. We sat around and shot the breeze and took pictures of the decorations. I accidentally came across five people whom I know, two in the same my major and three who had graduated from the same high school, so I was really glad to see them. And I asked two of them for an interview for the Gourmet in Daegu section. Meanwhile, I could also see the busy chef, being helped by his wife and some part time students, working industriously and felt their devotion and faithfulness to making and serving food.

Soo-jeong forgot to bring her notebook, so she made memos on a small film box, and when she was about to interview, I lent her mine. (Soo-jeong, take care to bring notebooks next time.) This trivial mistake might make her look like an apprentice reporter, but she was really professional during the interview. In the meantime, the food we had ordered was served and I started to enjoy it. The combination of glossy boiled rice and the spicy fragrance of hot chicken was wonderful to me. As I ate Herb Chicken Rice, I reflected that it had been a good idea to follow Soo-jeong to this restaurant.

There were several desserts, but I could not order Wine Sherbet because it wasn't available. Soo-jeong ordered Cherryade, her friend asked for Lemonade, and I had iced tea. The chief gave a piece of cake especially for us, but to my disappointment, I had to run for the next class, which was in ten minutes time, so I couldn't taste the deliciously looking cake. As I was walking back to the lecture hall, I was unhappy about having to hurry: I didn't even have 10 minutes' spare time to appreciate the scent of autumn. The beautiful scenery mirrored in my eyes on that day seemed like a product of the Creator's hand, just like food formed by a chef's loving efforts.
