The competition between the electioneering teams
Last November 24, the election for choosing a new student president was invalidated. This was because a ballot box was opened before the voting period was over. An observer, who works for the student council of College of Engineering, said, "Two students kicked the ballot box on purpose. The box broke open and the voting ballot papers in it spilled onto the floor. At that time, one student took a shot of the event with his cellular phone camera and posted it on the web, so that everyone could see it." Of course, this was an isolated episode, and the real show was just about to begin. At first, we had competition between the two electioneering teams - the 'Delicious Students' and the 'Remarking Students' ("delicious" and "remarking" are slogans for this election). But the day before the election, the Election Administration Commission officer canceled the name of the registered Delicious students'. This led to various further problems and competition, with the two teams desperately (and unfairly) fighting for victory.
When the voting took started, on November 24, there was only one registered candidate. In addition, the election administrators could not be trusted, and a large number of the students gave up their right to vote. The Delicious students' group demanded a new ballot, while the Remarking students' group encouraged students to vote. The election system was invalidated, and was declared null and void. This has been a shameful November for KNU. Regret is always too late, but reflection provides a means of positive change. The new vote will occur later this year or in March next year. At that time, let us hope that the disturbing events of this year will not be repeated.
